Firmware Update - Brick SSD -G2

Hello,

Drive = Intel G2 X25 80gig.

Download latest Intel toolbox and firmware update utility, install.

Run

Says SSD in IDE mode.

Reboot to BIOS change back to AHCI (was on AHCI when system was setup)

Back in windows

Run Update Utility, says AHCI and can proceed with Firmware update.

Drive begins to update firmware.

Desktop icons and all menus disappear (like an explorer crash)

System then BSOD

SSD is now no longer seen by BIOS.

Have tried going back to IDE/Compatibile mode, restart, no SSD detected.

Switch back to AHCI save and restart, No SSD detected.

Any recovery for this? or have to RMA?

Hi apocbane, did you find a solution to this?

I have a similar situation, i installed a second, identical SSD - also the X25 G2, to run raid, the SSD died, and i haven't been able to see it in the BIOS since, i suspect we probably have a similar corruption...

Thank you Jim.

I've proceeded with the RMA after talking with support.

For others:

I believe the root cause to be it being a drive i used for Win 7 OS. Trying to flash via windows wasn't the best idea.

If you plan to flash the firmware on this drive and are using windows 7 actively on it, i'd go the downloadable CD route.

Booting to a CD should free any type of locks on data sectors and enable the drive to be flashed successfully.

Normally this is my standard route for all flashes (through boot, not OS)
