Hello,
The support techs at 2K have identified the DLL that is crashing the game but have essentially washed their hands of the problem and sent me here. I have a 2nd Generation Intel® Core™ Processor with Intel® HD Graphics 3000/2000 in my laptop. The driver has been uninstalled/reinstalled and is up to date. Still crashing.
Outside of perusing the Game Troubleshooting recommendations, that is the limit of my technical skill. Any help or insight from the community would be greatly appreciated.
Scott

Hi,
For troubleshooting information I recommend following the URL:
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-010486.htm http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-010486.htm
However, I have checked game requirements for XCOM and it does not mention an on-board graphics solution. Please take a look at the URL below:
http://support.2k.com/entries/22160943-xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-system-requirements http://support.2k.com/entries/22160943-xcom-enemy-unknown-pc-system-requirements
If you are under Windows 7, please test the latest Windows* 8 drivers and let me know if you still have same issue, go here and select Windows 8, either 32 or 64 bit depending on your operating system version and download the driver and test the game.

Hi Allan,
I just want to be sure I understand your recommendation. You advise that I load the Windows 8 drivers even though I am using Windows 7, correct? Certainly something I have never done before but is worth trying.
Nic,
1. Laptop.
2. HP Pavilion d7
3. Windows 7, 64 bilt
4. No.
Thank you both for your assistance.

Hi nic
I'm having almost the same problem, I tried to look in the area that you had posted and see if maybe i needed to update my drivers as well, but the files that i got after clicking what OS I'm running and all, they both told me my laptop did not use and did not pass the install test it dose at the end, I'm not sure why the game for me crashes after the few logo screens, i don't see any crash reports, I play several big MMOS on this with out a problem such as EvE Online
I have an Acer Aspire, model 7745
My system states that i have these video specs
Name Intel(R) HD Graphics
Adapter Type Intel(R) HD Graphics (Core i3), Intel Corporation compatible
Adapter Description Intel(R) HD Graphics
Adapter RAM 1.71 GB (1,839,456,256 bytes)

Thanks for the info Troy. You've got the latest driver for your system according to the Acer support site. You might give our driver a try and see if it fixes the issue, but keep in mind that it's a generic driver and some of your other features may be disabled while using it. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=21776&lang=eng&OSVersion=Windows%207%20(64-bit)*&DownloadType=Drivers Download Center
Let me know how it goes.

Hi hurlyburly,
Can you provide some specifics on the system you're using;
1. Is it a desktop or a laptop?
2. Who is the OEM? (Original Equipment Manufacturer; Dell, HP, etc) Or is it home-built?
3. What operating system are you running?
4. Do you have an add-in graphics card in addition to the onboard graphics?
Thank you,
-Nic
