Even though it is not addressing 64-bit functionality, the reality is the drivers for PowerVR SGX based GPUs are currently unacceptable, and need to be fixed across the board.
There is no necessity for the SGX 5xx GPU to have specific hardware level 64-bit computing support in order for drivers to function. The drivers merely need to be updated to 64-bit functions and calls on the CPU and API side. This is how most device drivers are updated to 64-bit. In the early days of XP 64-bit it was common to modify the driver INF file decorations to declare 64-bit support and do a force install of the unsigned driver. This caused few if any problems. As close as GPU drivers run to the kernel, the drivers would possibly need a few other patches to handle passing 64-bit pointers from RAM. Again, this is a CPU side operation, and translation of memory addresses is trivial.
I have written a couple of long threads here explaining the deficiencies of the GMA series drivers under Windows 7 and 8.
I just wanted to weigh in and say that we are also awaiting the drivers that work correctly on Windows 7 64-Bit.
Intel - You should never released hardware that does not have the drivers for major OSes ready to go. I feel like I was sold a car that has no engine. Sure it looks great and it is new and exciting.... but useful... no.
Perhaps Intel you would like to buy back the hardware that is so far useless.
I still am having trouble comprehending why there are so many post from both Windows 7 64Bit and Linux users that Intel seems to be all but ignoring. If Intel does not want to listen to their customers.... soon Intel will lose their customers. INTEL WHERE ARE YOU GUYS ON THIS???? Who's programming and testing time do we need to pay for to make this happen???
