Hi Rick. Have you checked if the lines appear in safe mode? If they do not, then it could mean a driver issue. Try uninstalling the Intel® graphics driver and installing a different version. Clean installation of the operating system will discard a software issue

If the lines appear on safe mode or in the BIOS you may have a hardware issue. Try discarding the monitor, cable and video port as the cause.
You may also want to reset the BIOS settings to default and provide further details about your system and what you have tried so far if the issue persists.

It should work properly with the default settings but make sure Dynamic Video Memory Technology is set to auto. So, what results did you get from the previous suggested troubleshooting?
Would you kindly provide a memory model or part number?

THks for reply DVMT in bios settings only has 128meg ,256meg and max.I put it at max.My memory is GSkill F3-10666CL9D-4GBXL ,I already got in touch with Gskill, they told me to leave settings for my ram at auto.
In safe mode I still get black lines.I changed monitors and same thing. I can't try digital port(DVI-D) port I don't have a monitor or hardware for that.
I did also a systemdefault in bios and same thing.Hope this info helps. Thks

If you changed the video cable along with the monitor then it would be a good idea to test the processor with the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool
http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-031726.htm
And if the test passes there is a chance you may need to start swapping components to determine the cause of the issue.

I wonder if you have received the same motherboard or if it was replaced as the Platform Controller Hub is on the motherboard. I will try to investigate more about the result from the test but it may take few days.

You may compare the motherboard serial numbers if you have them.
Would it be able for you to provide screenshot(s) of the failure or failed lines in the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool?

Ok forget the fail test it was a intel audio display driver that was not passing, all ok now .I guess it is the memory. While the intel test was being done I noticed that it said intel integrated graphics device was not supported. Should it be supported on this G540 processor? THks

The G540 processor has Intel® HD Graphics; it may appear as not supported if you are using a discrete graphics card. Is that the case?

If you are not using a discrete graphics card then please post a screenshot of the Intel® Processor Diagnostic Tool including the failed tests.

The memory you have is 1333MHz and the processor supports up to 1066MHz; but I cannot tell for sure this is the cause of the issue. You tested or replaced everything else but the processor; however, the IPDT test passed. The results are not very conclusive.
If you do not have other memory to test with at 1066MHz 1.5v then contact Intel® technical support.

Thks for reply .Gskill told me the mobo should automatically pick right timings, and would only work up to 1066Mhz so that is no problem.I contacted Intel today and they did a RMA for the processor, they said it could be a faulty graphics on it.
