Hi I bought a new PC with the new i5-3570k and im using integrated HD 4000. I played games like Need for Speed ProStreet, NFS Undercover, SC2, NHL 2009, Portal 2 and once it crashed during a League of Legends game. Some of those like NHL 2009 are so old that im surprised it can crash. I play games on lowest settings possible is still crashes time to time even when there isnt much action going on.
Strange that I played COD: MW3 on medium settings and it didnt crush once...
I have latest 8.15.10.2761 drivers installed BIOS is updated to latest version, no overclocking has been done. Can I do something that the computer wont freeze during a game play so that I dont have to reboot the computer.

Seems like it could be faulty hardware. Sometimes intermittent problems don't show until you do something demanding, like in this case, games. The easiest and common one is RAM, if you can try another one.

I have experienced exactly the same problem. My computer would freeze while I was playing Starcraft 2. I have not done any overclocking and have installed the latest 8.15.10.2761 driver.
I noticed that the clock frequency for my RAM was at 1600MHz instead of the suggested 2133MHz and the timings were off as well. I have changed it and haven't experienced ant freezes since. Admittedly I have only played for about 6 hours after making these changes, so I am not totally sure that the problem is solved yet, but so far it is looking good. I will let you know if this problem recurs.
My system is
i5 3570k
AsRock Z77 Pro4
Gskill Sniper Series (2x 4GB) DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000)
HD4000 (no discrete GPU)

Hello i am having the same problem with the sabertooth z77 and the 3770k on Borderlands. But Borderlands only crashes wen you go full screen (i was windowed). I first tought it was the powersupply which was broken the next day (350 watt).

It could be your memory. Run it at DDR3-1333 and lower the voltage to 1.5V, if it doesn't work increase it to 1.65V.

What I meant in my previous post is that changing iGFX Memory to 1024 did not solve my problem. However, after changing RAM settings to 2133 MHz has apparently solved it.

Hi all, I solved. Same issue.
Freeze occured instantly while running any gpu stress tester with my HD4000 videocard or any benchmark in a couple of secs.
Same thing if you start a game.
You can fix this way.
Check your MB has the lastest BIOS in case refer to your manufacturer website.
Download and install Iobit Driver Booster -> http://www.iobit.com/it/driver-booster.php http://www.iobit.com/it/driver-booster.php
*If you can buy it elseway it will take a day.
Launch the program and UPDATE every single driver displayed.
Check with Intel Driver UPDATE UTILITY if YOU OWN the LASTEST intel graphics DRIVERS and UPDATE it TOO INSTALLING THE FULL SUITE.
Troubleshooting:
If you experience a freeze during next reboot dont worry, just power off and power on again your PC
If you experience instead your PC is on the Windows LOGON but mouse and keyboard DO NOT respond, UNPLUG and PLUG back your USB keyboard and mouse cables.
THAT'S ALL FOLKS
