    DB75EN and Windows Server 2008 R2

    prabbit

      Hi there,

I built a new noiseless server for my home office and decided to buy the DB75EN, because Windows Server 208 R2 was mentioned on the driver page.

Now, when I tried to install the drivers, I read that this section only contains a document that no Server OS is supported

Windows 7 x64 and Windows Server 2008 R2 drivers should be mostly identically, so I downloaded the lasted drivers from the Intel Support Website.

Chipset and video driver installed fine, USB 3.0 partly (A new unknown device appeared in the Device Manager), but network driver displayed "no network card found". The generic 82579v driver did the same.

I accept that there is official support for any Server OS, but is there a unofficial, unsupported way the get the drivers working?

I'm a software developer and system admin so it's no problem if I would have to tweak INF files or something like that ...

Thanks in advance for any helpful hint!

Just use WinRAR or other RAR-compatible archiver to unpack latest PROWin7_64_v17.1.exe file, than go to device manager and update Ethernet controller(s) driver manually, selecting PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62\ subfolder as source. If you really need PROSET functionality (VLAN especially), go to APPS\PROSETDX\Winx64\ subfolder and run DxSetup.exe.

            JFFulcrum,

thank you for your quick response.

Unfortunately Dvc Mgr -> Update driver -> browsing to PROWin7_64_v17.1\PRO1000\Winx64\NDIS62 results in "Windows could not find driver software for your device"

It' a Enterprise installation with nothing than SNMP added. When I installed Win7 Pro x64, the driver from the Mainboard CD installed without any problems.

I checked the HW Ids in Dvc Mgr for the Ethernet controller, it's PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_20418086&REV_04, so this INF must be the right one: e1c62x64.inf:

            ...

            %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%       = E1503.6.1.1,  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503

            ...

            ; Intel(R) 82579V Gigabit Network Connection

            ;

            [E1503]

            ...

            Any more hints?

              I figured it out myself:

In e1c62x64.inf, there are no entries for E1503 (what is the 82579v Chip) using Server 2008 R2 (version 6.1), only for Win7 x64 (version 6.1.1):

              [Intel.NTamd64.6.1.1]

              ; DisplayName                   Section              DeviceID

              ; -----------                   -------              --------

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_00011179

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_00021179

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_80001025

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_00011179

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_00021179

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_80001025

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503.6.1.1,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_04911025

              [Intel.NTamd64.6.1]

              ; DisplayName                   Section        DeviceID

              ; -----------                   -------        --------

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_00011179

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_00021179

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_80001025

So I copied all lines starting with %E1503NC.DeviceDesc% from 6.1.1 to 6.1 and replaced "= E1503.6.1.1," by "= E1503," because this is already resolved in the "Windows Server 2008 R2" section below.

              [Intel.NTamd64.6.1]

              ; DisplayName                   Section        DeviceID

              ; -----------                   -------        --------

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_00011179

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_00021179

              %E1502NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1502,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1502&SUBSYS_80001025

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_00011179

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_00021179

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_80001025

              %E1503NC.DeviceDesc%            = E1503,       PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_04911025

              ... and voila, driver installed!

Intel did that indentionally to prevent installation of this driver on a server!

Intel Desktop Board DB75EN uses Intel® 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet Controller.

You can find Network Drivers for Windows 2008 R2 Server at the following link:

NOTE: The following devices do not have driver or software support for Windows Server 2008 R2:

                  - Intel® 82566MC Gigabit Network Connection

                  - Intel® 82566MM Gigabit Network Connection

This link provides the Intel® Ethernet Connections CD.

                        • Please download the ZIP file.
                        • Uunzip the file to a specific folder.
                        • Look for the AUTORUN.EXE file and double click on it.
                        • Select install (drivers and software), this will install the latest driver available for your network adapter and it will install it without any problem. http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22283

                        Regards.
