using chrome or word, take about 20-30 sec of freezing, and it looks like the problem is related to the cache reading (just a hint...)

i'm quite disapointed with Intel 330, because i've choose it instead of samsung 830, i'm so regreat!!!!

but what is very strange, is intel staff maintains silence....

if no support or explanation is made, i'll put in RMA unfortunately

OK, I was able to FIX my problem 100%.

My Toshiba M645 Satellite with Win 7 64 Bit Home Premium came with Intel Rapid Storage Technology - BUT it was out of date. I downloaded the latest drivers from Intel and applied a Registry Patch from the site below.

Bear in mind that any changes to the registry are done at your own risk. Since I applied both changes simultaneously, I cannot state which change was successful or if both were necessary.

Using a Thinkpad T61 here. Also having occasional freezes for roughly 30secs. Very annoying.

After applying the reg file trick, 24 hours past and no freezing at all... let's see from now...

I have not uninstalled any program or changed/removed any driver from intel (still have Intel SSD Toolbox and Intel Rapid Storage Technology installed), must be an incompatibility problem between hardware configuration and bios, in terms of SATA port management, i think....

Just a note: in application of the reg file trick, after registry change, when i executed the intel ssd Toolbox in the System Tuner tab, was suggested to change the DIPM value, so i did it and that's the state of my windows installation without (so far) any freeze.

I hope this is the solution, but I'd be happier if Intel said anything ... even if it was a simple firmware update!

Hi Carlos (or those who applied the registry fix),

I'm suffering the same problem too.

Interestingly, i can consistently reproduce the freeze/hang at will using CrystalDiskMark3_0_1c x64.

Run random 512K block size test with the tool, test size does't matter.

Reads are all good with ~450MB/s.

For Write, sometimes it can finish 1 or 2 loop with ~150MB/s, and then the hdd led goes off and freeze!!

I have to do hard reset.

Tried everything but no luck.... 

1. installed latest IRST (before i've done this, random BSOD)

2. disable all CPU C-state in bios

3. enable hot plug of the SATA device in bios

4. registry edit trick

5. disable trim

Question:

1) Have you installed the "latest" IRST driver?

The registry key path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\iaStor does not exist. I created it manually. Just to clarify if we're doing the same thing.

2) Would you also try my CrystalDiskMark test case to dictate stability of ur setup now?

I also just had a similar issue with a 330 series (180GB) but on a fresh Windows 8 Pro (RTM) install.

Then after rebooting, the OS did not boot. Trying to repair, reinstall Win8 or Win7 is not possible. SSD is detected, creating or deleting partition is possible, formating a partition is possible, but Windows doesn't want to write any bit on the SSD.

Also had the freezing issue initially, but found the solution now. The reason seems to be some incompatibility with a power saving feature called DIPM.  This is a common problem and there are plenty of pages describing this fix, such as http://www.iishacks.com/2012/10/14/fixing-an-ssd-freezing-on-windows-7/

The .reg file method described there didn't work for me, but the easiest way is just to start regedit and make sure the three values are set to 0 for all ports.

Be careful when returning to Intel SSD Toolbox. SSD Toolbox Tuner wants to turn on DIPM again, and if you agree it will reset the registry values again. I did that, and the freezing promptly returned again after a reboot. Had to go back to registry and disabled the values again.

Was having similar issues with my intel 330 drive with an AMD motherboard.

To fix it was just a matter of installing the latest AMD AHCI drivers (found here)

I have disabled DIPM through the .reg file. It does reduce the freeze frequency. However, I still notice it frequently freeze after resume from hibernation and cold boot. Interestingly, there's will be almost no freeze after 2-3 times warm reboot. I do not understand how and why this occurs.

I have a windows 7 64bit OS installed on Dell XPS m1330 laptop. I think I will just return it and get a SSD from another brand. Originally I thought intel has the best quality SSD, but they really let me down this time.

FYI... I just reinstalled Windows 7 from scratch due to an unrelated problem, and no freezing issues anymore even with DIPM on. So seems to be an issue with migrating an existing system to Intel SSD. I guess it makes sense to do a clean install when migrating to SSD.

Had the same problem, tried all of the tips listed here, and even called Intel support, Which was a complete waist of time. I was first told that it was a memory issue, with windows 7,  i.e. I was running out of memory, when I stated the fact that there is 12GB in the system and asked if they has looked at the details I has sent (the performance monitor showing the disk queue maxed out) CPU 9%  memory 6 GB free details.... I did not get a response...

However I found a fix for the problem, I replaced the drive with a OCZ Agility 4 256GB and have not seen any hang / pause at all!

+1 more. Last Intel SSD I am buying. It will go right back to Newegg and be reviewed with a simple review warning others that these are DOA and unstable. Clearly this is a product that should be recalled or never have made it to market. Intel can answer me on Newegg where the general public can read my review and Intel's response, or lack thereof. I won't waste anymore time. GJ Intel, you went from being awesome to being Turdburglars over one bad product. I simply won't trust more Intel SSD's no matter what happens. It changes that fast. Thanks for wasting my time. I'd be willing to bet Intel knows these should not have made it to market. There is no excuse for DOA from the likes of Intel. None.

One more unhappy costumer, I have intel ssd 330 120gb on fresh installed win 7 64-bit and my lenovo laptop g780g freezes randomly.

I tried:

- Install latest IRST and disable DIMP with manual and auto regfix iastor  ->freezing

- unnistal IRST, ms drivers works with no freezing but there shows up random blue screen  0x000000004f error

- Install IRST again, uninstall lenovo power managment, regfix again, power plan option for hard disk set to never but still freezing

-in bios setting is on AHCI

For all that test time Intel ssd toolbox shows that DIMP is optimized, I don't know how is that posibble if in registry is everything to disabled (set to 0)

I am desperate help me...I wanted to return disk to my local store but they say it has been past 8 days from purchase and return/replacement for another product is not possible. And if I take disk at warranty they probably wouldn't find any problems because it's the driver issue...Is there still something else that I could try?

Problems here too.  Lenovo H430 desktop, 240GB Intel 330 SSD.  Frequent freezing in Chrome that last for 30+ seconds.  One time it froze for minutes and finally I pulled the plug.

I've updated the chipset drivers to the latest, got the lastest RST driver from Intel's website.  Even tried disabling LPM and DIPM per the registry tweaks.  Still got a freezeup a few minutes ago.

Not real happy with Intel right now.
