DZ77GA-70K and Corsair CMX32GX3M4A1600C11 / 32 GB Problem

Trying to set up a sys with 32GB RAM.

DZ77GA-70K works with only 2 (out of 4) 8 GB Corsair CMX32GX3M4A1600C11 modules of this set in DIMM 3 and 1.

With 3 or 4 modules POST stops at 21 or 41.

!! Bought these "pricy" modules because Intel references it as tested memory here. !!!

When setting the BIOS to "Automatic" it sets 1333 9-9-9 - works fine with 2 modules.

Setting BIOS to 1600 11-11-11-30 (Corsair specification) works fine only with 2 modules, too.

Setup

GAZ7711H.86A.0039.2012.0426.1522

CPU: I7-3770K, PS is a brand new Corsair AX750 Gold Plus.

Does anyone experienced the same problem? Any solutions?

Thx for help.

    Granzilla,

There is the possibiity that one of your DIMMs is bad. I would suggest that you test the various combinations of two DIMMs and see if you can isolate a bad one. Let us know what you find...

    Thx spearson,

But that's what I've been trying already.

Finally bought a new pair of RAM (CMX16GX3M2A1600C11 - 16 GB) and tried - NO WAY to get more than 1 of the modules to work (default BIOS settings). Unbelievable!

Why does Intel recommend this RAM? This MB sucks - A LOT !!

Can anyone of the INTEL tec staff answer these questions occasionally?

I have same motherboard and Corsair 16GB (4x4096MB) CL9 1600Mhz VENGEANCE LP (CML16GX3M4A1600C9). Running at XMP-1600. That ram should work so maybe your motherboard is faulty?

    Granzilla,

You have to understand that this is a Communities forum intended for user-to-user communications. While Intel moderators, who are part of Intel Customer Support, and some folks (like myself), who do this voluntarily, do monitor the forums and respond to some questions, the primary methods for communicating with Intel Customer Support are via the phone and chat services.

Regarding your issue, I have passed on a request for investigation to the folks responsible. In the mean time, I suggest that you contact Intel Customer Support and open a ticket regarding your issue...

Sorry I can't help you any further,

    spearson,

    Thank you for your reply.

I just put all the 4 pieces of Corsair CMX32GX3M4A1600C11 into our last year's Intel MB DP67BAB3 ---- works excellent, even at XMP-1600! Ran the Windows memory check which results OK. So, I can be sure all Corsair items are working correctly.

It is pretty obvious: DZ77GA-70K (BIOS GAZ7711H.86A.0039.2012.0426.1522) has severe problems!

Does anybody got 32 GB RAM working on this MB? Please tell me the manifacturer and some specification. That would help. THX.

    dislikeyou,

Thank you very much for this information.

Funny, your MB works with (similar) RAM not tested by Intel

Maybe they shouldn't recommend any RAM, so people doesn't get trapped!

No changes yet. MB only works with 2 of 4 8GB RAM, one in a blue slot, the other one in a black slot.

Intel Desktop Utility shows 0,720 V memory voltage (all values show a green sign), the BIOS is set to 1,5 V.

    Strange!

@spearson: Any comments by the Intel tech team? Any BIOS update coming soon?

There are more severe faults with this board:

    1. Marvell SATA controller does not work at all (latest STOR_Win7_XP_11.2.0.1006 installed). Connecting WD2002FAEX 2 TB to the gray ports results in nice bluescreens and disconnects of the hard drives!!
    2. Heavy USB usage is not recommended. You will spend hours to find a working configiuration, especially when you try the hgh voltage ports - unacceptable.

Does anybody got 32 GB RAM working with this MB?

Please tell me the manifacturer and specification.

    That would help. THX.

Its possible you have a defective board.  I have a WD 1TB drive on my Marvell SATA and it works fine, as do all my USB ports and I'm maxed out on them.

I have the same memory kit 4x8GB corsair as you i7-3770K but a DZ77BH-55K mainboard. I can also not get them to work at xmp-1600 on my board. Not even 2 dimms (one per channel) work. I sometimes have it working with one dimm in single channel. 4x8GB@DDR3-1333 works fine.

However i did get more speed by increasing the bus clk from 100 to 105 as a test, then the system does run and work at 1400. I placed 2x4gb whitelabel dimms in my system that are 1600mhz capable without xmp profile and the system work without issues.

I believe that there is something wrong with the mainboard bios and not the dimms. Somehow the xmp profile is not properly loaded or something like that. I tried setting the timing manually and fiddled around with that for quite a while but nothing seems to work. I can try to see if my kit works in a ddr3-1600mhz capable machine at work to test the dimms in another setup but I suspect the same results as you, i suspect it will work in that machine.

    @ robertjal

Thx - it's really a mess - the new BIOS -0045 dated June 13 doesn't fix it as well. And even there are more issues occurring now. It looks like we will ban Intel MBs from our companies!

for comparison can you guys post your spd settings from cpu-z ?

these are mine. notice the dimms reporting 1333 as their max bandwidth. maybe the mainboard is not at fault after all. I'm also bugging corsair support about this. I bought 1600mhz dimms that should do that natively/guaranteed, not 1333 that can maybe be overclocked to 1600

memory spd report for one of my dimms, all 4 are the same:

And now it gets really crazy:

Updated to the BIOS -0045 dated June 13 the system doen't boot because the boot hard drive is not indicated in the bios:

Standard view: the second SSD with the Windows MBR on it is missing.

    bios1.png

    Now the advanced view:

    bios2.png

    Same thing...

Let's have a look in the SATA section:

    bios3.png

Wow! Both SSDs showing up - and even the second WD disc is showing up - what a surprise!

    But:

    bios4.png

This means no MBR - no fun - no system start.

Let`s try again! There is a fancy feature called F10:

    bios5.png

You won't believe it: choosing the P0-drive starts the system!

Conclusion: If we want to start this machine, we'll have to do it the fancy F10 way. This is really nice! It might be a hidden Intel feature? Slowly we understand why Ivy Bridge took some weeks more to rise and shine. It's the most crappy implementation Intel ever delivered!

Buying a MB at $230 and getting THIS with the 4th bios upgrade – well, we're running out on 4-letter-words.....

As I mentioned before: It's time to ban Intel from the vendor list.

    What do YOU think?

    Slot #2 the same.

For me bios 0045 solved all my issues. So my experience with Intel is now good and i might consider buying a Intel board in the future also. Intel support is getting better.
