DN2800MT Grub not recognizing external USB Hard Drive

I thought I would try to install Red Hat Linux on a DN2800MT using a 750MB Western Digital external USB hard drive that I already had.

      (see http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=440)

After working around some issues with my external DVD drive (see other post: http://communities.intel.com/thread/29567), I was able to continue the install onto the WD external USB hard drive. It seemed to complete. However, at completion the reboot came up to the Grub prompt and would not see HD0. I messed around with it for a bit. I could boot the recovery image. There, I checked the grub device map. Tried changing it around a few different ways, but couldn't figure it out.  If anyone has a suggestion, I would appreciate hearing it.

Eventually, I just went and bought a 250GB 2.5" SATA drive and installed the Red Hat on it. This boots up fine!!!  Our embedded Robot Application is making progress again.  My daughter tested her JAVA socket example between her Mac and the DN2800MT. Excellent!!

Now to try to figure out how to control the Robots motors.  Any suggestions?
