Does "End of Life" mean that the desktop board is no longer in production or does it mean end of support

I am planning to purchase a new Core-i3 540 desktop processor. The intel support section lists a few boards such as DH55HC,DH55TC,DH55PJ etc. that are compatible with Core-i3 540 processor. However, the status information for these board models lists them as "End of Life". What does this actually mean ?.

Can i go ahead and purchase one of these boards or, is it recommended to go in for a different processor ?
