    Help with CPU Fan 3770K

Hello I am a novice system builder and only hours ago I finished building my new PC. Everything booted up fine the first time and I went into BIOS just to see if everything was functioning properly. Everything looked fine as far as I could tell, so saved and powered down. I turned it back on 10 min later to install the OS (Windows 7) and immediately it said fan error press F1. I took a look at my case and seen that the cpu fan was not spinning properly, only a quarter turn every couple seconds. I powered down and tried again only to have the same thing happen. The temperature was around 45 C and rose up to around 50 C befoe I turned it off. I double checked to make sure that the cable was plugged in its correct location and it was. I want to know if anyone has any idea what might be causing this or if it simply sounds like a faulty fan? Could it be any fault of mine during construction/installation? If so at what stage? As I said I am a novice system builder but this is not my first build.

Please keep in mind that the Temperature in BIOS may be higher if the Operating System is not installed. This is because the thermal control features are not running on the system. We would recommend installing the Operating System and verifying if the issue persists.

If the fan is working properly and you are receiving the same error message, you should have an option in BIOS that will alert you when the cooling fan is running slow. Please contact the motherboard manufacturer for better information about how to disable this option.

If the issue persists, we would recommend you to contact the Place of Purchase. These components are covered by a 30 days warranty from the date or purchase.

What you could try is to connect the fan to a differend header on the mainboard to see if it spins up correctly .

(leave the heatsink on your cpu )(Do not take the fann off and turn the system on!!)

only plug the fan connector on a different header on the mainboard.

Also 50c is not that much off a problem.

if it does not spin up correctly i would sugest to test it on a other system.(if u have that option)

But from my experience in the past, a fan that does the quarter spin is eighter being blocked by wires or other stuff.

Look closly if there is nothing stuck between the blades of the fan and the heatsink.

            Last but not least.

If you are not sure what you are doing.

Take your machine back to you reseller, thats also the way to go if your fan is realy broken.

Thanks for the advice/help guys. I installed the OS and the issue continued to persist. If I simply restart the computer the fan will usually work properly on the second boot. I have not yet used the computer for any extended period of time so I don't know if it will ever suddenly stop spinning after restart. I just got back from a trip so I haven't gotten around to checking to see the fan works as intended in a chassis fan slot. I will likely get to that tomorrow

Hey there I'm having the same exact problem as your having and I have the same mobo and cpu as you. Have you had this issue resolved?
