I have a server with a Supermicro X8DTL-iF motherboard and an Intel RS2WC040 raid controller in a Supermicro CSE-743i-R760 chassis that has been running well for about 2 years. I recently purchased a WD1003FBYX 1TB RE4 hard drive to use as a spare in my RAID5 array. I shut down he server, removed power and LAN cables, inserted the new drive in the drive case, slot 3. Whne I powered up the server, it would not even post or display anything to the screen. I opened the case and noticed that the two LEDs on the back edge of the RAID controller card were amber. I powered down, checked the cabling, reseated the RAID controller, reseated the new drive and powered it back up with the same issue. I powered down again, removed the new WD hard drive drive from the drive bay, powered up the server and everything was working again.
Is there soe incompatibility with the RS2WC040 raid controller and the WD1003FBYX 1TB RE4 SATA hard drive I am mising?
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
