Black border on monitor using extended view on Intel HD Graphics

Just got the Dell R15 laptop with intel HD graphics and wanted to hook it up to my LG W2261VP monitor using a HDMI cable.

Plugged it all in and changed the resolution for the monitor on the intel graphics menu to 1920x1080 which is recommended, however i get a massive black border surrounding the image on my monitor. I tried a tested several resoltions and the first one that doesnt get a black border is the same resoltion as my laptop which is1366x768

Ive updated the drivers but whatever i do i cant get rid of the black border. My monitor should be bale to function on 1920x1080 but i have no idea why it isent.

can anyone put me in the right direction

Thanks

Dan

Hello,

I suggest you to try using the latest generic driver posted here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Processor+graphics&ProductProduct=2nd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+3000/2000&ProdId=3319&LineId=3310&FamilyId=39 http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&ProductFamily=Graphics&ProductLine=Processor+graphics&ProductProduct=2nd+Generation+Intel%C2%AE+Core%E2%84%A2+Processors+with+Intel%C2%AE+HD+Graphics+3000/2000&ProdId=3319&LineId=3310&FamilyId=39

In addition update your system BIOS and load the driver for the monitor that you have connected. Then check on the Intel(R) Graphics and Media control panel, check on Display> General settings and change the scaling mode to whichever of the options available and see if that makes a difference.

Furthermore, check on the monitor itself and its manufacturer to see if there is any internal menu that may be causing this and/or test using another TV display to test this.

I know this is an old subject, but I struggled with the same problem today...

The black borders in HDMI are not an error, or a bug. Those are called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overscan "overscan", it is a feature, and you have to turn it off. How that is done depends on your graphic driver. Google with "overscan" and your graphics adapter name.

Here is one set of instructions: http://m.gigabyte.com/support/faq-page.aspx?fid=1805 GIGABYTE - Service (In that driver the property is called "Custom aspect ratio"...)
