Help, Is a CPU upgrade needed?

I have a HP Media Center PC m72067c with an Intel Pentium 4, 3.00GHz, 1.99GB CPU. My computer is running slow. It can not stream video continously nor load web pages without taking a minute or two. Do I need to upgrade my CPU and if so what are some upgrade options with a reasonable price?

Additionally, it is a socket type LGA775 and the motherboard manufacture's name is ASUS PTGD-LA and HP/Compaq name is Goldfish3-GL8E. I don't know if any of this is of importance because I'm pretty ignorant of the subject.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Intel® Pentium® 4 processors are pretty old now, you can try performing a clean installation of the operating system, and installing all available updates for your operating system and any running software, but if this does not help, then you will need to contact the motherboard manufacturer so they can provide you a list of fully supported processors for your motherboard. That way you can determine if your motherboard is upgradable or not.
