Audio and audio control panel fails

    Tom_B

Audio for this Intel DG45ID is controlled by the IDT audio control panel.

The audio starts up OK, but dies without an error message.  On checking the audio control panel, the display on selecting the top (speaker "levels") icon is not normal - - it is abbreviated.  Master volume is no longer there.  Neither are the presets.  Re-starting Windows XP-Pro restores the audio again and the normal appearance of the IDT control panel.  I've not seen this kind of error before.  Where should I begin with this?

          More info:

The IDT audio control panel appears in Settings / Control Panel on the XP Pro computer.  It starts working OK. Then it fails without an error message or other notice - - except there is no sound from the stereo speakers, and the speaker on the mother board 'beeps' instead.  Selecting the IDT audio control panel results in this series of error messages:

An execution error occurred while trying to run C:\Windows\System32\Shell32.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Windows\System32\idtsg.cpi" IDT Control Panel"
