From what i read it can support a maximum of 16 gig of Ram.
Page 9 of Technical Specification Guide of your mb says 8 gb max.
in this site http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dq45cb/sb/CS-029529.htm it say max 16GB supported.
in this site http://ark.intel.com/products/34687/Intel-Desktop-Board-DQ45CB it ssay max 8 GB supported.
I've been using this motherboard with 8GB of Kingston DDR2-800MHz ram (4*2GB) sticks with no problem.
In papers they suggest that the maximum ammount of ram with the latest bios is 16GB. It started production back in 2008 with 8GB as a maximum capacity, but it was upgraded to 16GB somewhere in the middle of its lifetime.
The problem i believe is to find DDR2 4GB sticks running at 800MHz, and if you can find any it will cost you around 180$ for its one...therefor it is not worth it.
I tried to find some Kingston ones but they were out of production. In addition if you can find any you might have to run them at 667MHz for stability reasons.
I think updating bios to the latest version might work with 16GB of RAM. What do you think?
Always use the latest Bios for start. Do you have 4*4GB DDR2-800MHz modules?
in this moment i have 4x2GB modules PC800 DDR2, but at short time i'll have 4x4GB PC800
You can try to use it at 667MHz at pairs of 2 first, and if they operate stable, then you can set them up to 800MHz.
Are you referring to the 4x4GB PC800 configuration?
Ie: in 4x4GB PC800 configuration i try setting 667 MHz mode, if this mode is stable, i try setting 800 MHz mode. Say you that?

I mean the following:
Put 2*4GB first at 667MHz
then use them at 800MHz
If they are working ok, then put the other 2*4GB and see if they are working ok first at 667MHz, and then at 800MHz.
I found two modules
Komputerbay 4GB DDR2 DIMM (240 PIN) 800Mhz PC2 6400 4GB PC2 6300 -CL 5
These modules do not work very well at 800 MHz and the system is unstable, if I set up to 667 MHz, the system seems to work, but VMware ESXi 5 does not work and the system is restarted in loop at the moment it is loading the kernel.
Is there a way to solve the problem?
thanks in advance
