Rage + Steam Workaround

Rage, the latest game title from Id software, plays well out of the box on recent Intel Platforms with 2nd Gen Core Processors like many other games. However, when the game is used in combination with Steam Overlay – a feature of steam distribution platform from Valve, it may crash.

The following steps allow you to overcome this issue and enjoy the game.

Step 0: Upgrade to the latest Intel graphics driver ( 64-bit or 32-bit drivers).

Step 1: Select Rage from the menu on the left and right clicking and selecting properties

Step 2: Disable Steam Community by un-checking In-Game check box

I can try to replicate this issue and find out what is going on. Can you let me know what your system specs are? What OS version? 32 or 64 bit? What driver are you currently using? That will help me in troubleshooting it.

Rage another game is not supported by Intel HD...

Rage only supports: Nvidia or AMD

(looks like the game makers think of Intel onboard video as a joke, and those that own Intel HD are screwed)

Actually, I read an http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Editorial/John-Carmack-Interview-GPU-Race-Intel-Graphics-Ray-Tracing-Voxels-and-more/Intervi interview ( <-- that's a link to it) with John Carmack (one of id's lead programmers) in which he said that they were working to optimize RAGE for Intel's latest HD integrated graphics, and that they had it running at the time of interview around 30 frames per second (playable). I think game developers are actually taking Intel graphics seriously now...

ooohhh waaaiiit, I remember you. You were trolling on a thread about Intel graphics running Skyrim, too. , troll somewhere else. Seriously.

rofl, it took how long for you to come back to post good news about Intel HD, its still a joke... these graphics should have been supported when the game came out not months after... I still don't see Battlefield 3 being supported, so its not taken seriously as a good graphics card.... and no updates on them trying...

Bet you work for Intel...

Actually, I don't work for Intel, I'm an 18 year old college freshman who had to build a computer on a (relative) budget. I just hate people who troll for the hell of it (like you).

I chose Intel gfx because I wanted a fast CPU (check- screw AMD, their processors are terrible) and gpu performance above a normal (crappy) IGP (check).

If you think that in order to be taken seriously, a GPU has to be able to run the latest-and-greatest, biggest GPU-killer on the face of the earth, what about the budget solutions from nVidia and AMD? I don't think that anyone doesn' take nVidia 520 gt seriously, or radeon 5450... both of which are about the sam performance-wise as the intel igp. People on a budget game too, you don't need a $2500 rig that runs everything at max settings 2560x1600 16xAA to enjoy a game.

And actually, that interview was given before RAGE's release. So it was supported out of the box. It took me all of 5 minutes to come up with a reply, just because I find a thread a couple months after you were finished trolling for the time being doesn't mean it took me all that time to find a reply. If I spent two months searching for something to validate my point in an argument on an Internet forum, that would make me like you,. Go somewhere where your trolling talents are valued, like politics, and leave us alone.

Just here waiting for support, and waiting for new drivers... not seeing either...(the drivers get worse and worse)

Sorry if my presents makes you mad but you know what? I personally don't care about you or what you post. Don't like it don't read it...and don't reply to it...

THE INTEL HD SERRIES WITH i CORE 2ND GEN PROCESSORS ARE GREAT WITH GAMMING.......THE ONLY GAME THAT I HAD PROBLEM TO PLAY WITHOUT ANY FIX WAS GTA4........REST ALL RUNS DESCENTLY ON IT..........YOU SHOULD NOT EXPECT A NVDIA OR ATI TYPE PERFORMANCE BUT IT RUNS GAMES SATISFACTORILY WITH NOMINAL SETTINGS......AND MY LATEST ADDITION TO MY GAMES LIST IS "RAGE" AND IT RUNS QUIET GOOD WITH LOW AND MEDIUM SETTINGS.....

IF RAGE IS NOT RUNNING THEN JUST DOWNLOAD LATEST GRAPHIC DRIVERS FOR INTEL HD......MY LAPTOP'S CONFIG IS:

4GB RAM

INTEL i5 SECOND GEN 2430M

500gb hdd

intel hd3000................:-)

DONT GET DISHEARTENED IF U HAVE AN INTEL HD GRAPHIC....IT IS FAR BETTER THAN PREVIOUS ONES OF INTEL......U CAN PLAY GAMES WELL ON IT......INTEL HD ROCKS

Wow ! i've actually quite the same config as you, i've just added a 2GB ram,

but it make 2 days i've installed RAGE on my pc and it still crash defore the game menu.. still getting better each times, but not enough to play ..

but i wonder how you've manage to be able to play??

if you could tell me !!

it would be so great ,

by the way, :

1-is your pc , a dell N5110 like mine ?

2- i've heard about lowering the texture and other things like that, but i'm not sure if i'm able to, because of Steam who's managing the game, and my unnability to acces the game menu .. help please

dude go to intel download center and there download the latest graphic

drivers for intel hd graphics....the last one i had before playing

rage was of the month of february dated 17-2-2012...

its version is something with .2656 at the last.......download it or

latest to run it.....my laptop is toshiba c640-x1412...not a

DELL...btw u can try using game booster for better gameplay....the

first time i had installed rage with older drivers it didnt run but

after the latest drivers i completed it without any kind of

crashes....the game is good:).....and even if this doesnt work then go

to the intel hd graphic properties page and set it for max

quality...if doesnt work then make it best performance.....and go to

advanced power settings...there u will get a setting for the graphic

card usage....for both " plugged in" and "on battery" make it max

performance...u will get this in the "change plan settings" for your

battery..and if still nothing works then maybe its something related to steam....i dont use steam so dont know.......HOPE THIS SOLUTION HELPS....pls let me know...:-)

thanks ,

i alerdy know about the power setting, my pc is always at maximum performance

but about my driver, dell kind of ... block their user by editing something into their update that

only allow their update pack to be used...

and my version of driver is about 1year-old before the version you'r talking about.

thanks,
