Does the i5-2405S have Intel Smart Cache?

    rolf@rennemo.net

When I look at the specs for the 2405S it is not stated as it is on others (eg 2500T)

      Can someone verify?

This processor supports what is call Last Level Cache (LLC), you can check the following specifications:

          Ÿ  Last Level Cache

          –        Logically shared across all cores

          –        Physically divided into slices

          –        Bi-directional ring

          –        Links cores and cache slices

          –        Routes cache requests to the right slice

          –        Cache address assignment algorithm reduces bottleneck potential in any one slice

Ÿ  Ring architecture and multiple LLC entry points increase core to cache bandwidth up to 4x*

            Thanks.

I'm building a HTPC and I'm not sure what processor to select; i5-2405S or i3-2125. What will get the best performance? 6 MB/LLC vs 3 MB/Smart Cache?

Both have HD Graphics 3000 at the same speed.

I also realize the 2405S has two more cores, but in the HTPC I don't expect this to make a big difference in HTPC. They both have the same clock speed.

Appreciate answers as I'm out of my area of competense.

I would suggest checking the following comparison chart:

              http://ark.intel.com/compare/59080,55446

I personally do not see many differences between both processors, if you believe that you will not need 4 physical cores, and you want to save some money, you might want to think about the i3-2125, but the final decision can be taken only by you.

If you are still not sure about what processor to purchase, I would suggest contacting any of our Authorized Intel® Distributors, so they can provide you further recommendations.
