Intel QRTD causes critical error in system startup

I recently upgraded my operating system from  Windows XP media center to Windows Vista Ultimate. Since the upgrade the system hans on startup. One of the errors logged is "Intel QRTD could not attach EL ACPI driver." I've checked the Bios setting for quick resume and found it to be set to OFF, which I presume is correct since Vista does not support QRT. My question is why is this driver still attempting to be loaded and how do I stop it? Thanks in advance for your help.
