i7 2600k overheating and system getting shutdown :(

Just just got this Config assembled few weeks ago >

Recently i was facing overheating problem on my processor..while playing games temps reaches around 80 and after few hours it freezes :\ but just then my friend suggested me to get a good CPU cooler and and got Corsair hydro H80 Installed in my rig but after playing games again like battlefield badcompany 2, duke nukem forever etc my system froze down..now m not getting whts the prob. with my system is ??

Cpu on idle stay around > 35 to 40+

Cpu on load > around 75

PS: Der r no types of prob in mouting the cooler and thermal paste

'The processor Temperature threshold should be 72.6°, you may see 2 or 3 degrees up when running heavy applications like games, now I suggest to check your RAM as the memory controller is embedded on the processor is very sensitive to memory with high voltage, I suggest 1.5V DDR3-1066 or 1333 MHz anything higher that that may cause damage on your CPU. Other thing you could try is check with the board manufacturer for detail information about overheating and try to confirm if there is any update recommended (BIOS or drivers)

The temp value while idle is acceptable. When loaded you have a high value that could cause the system to shut down or freeze. Assuming no OC made, additional cooling may be needed. In your case you already installed a liquid cpu cooler. But that is not enough. One way is to try increasing the number of casing fans or upgrade them. Another might be to downgrade the games settings a little.

These are my configs and Corsair Hydro H80 is already installed because with stock cooler temps were lgoing upto 95 Degree...And i created this pc around 2000$+ and you want me to decrease graphics and play...whts the problem in this rig??? is that CPU is faulty??

It is one of the possible way that I have suggested of lowering the temp problem that you have. There are other ways. However, if you don't like the idea just forget about it and look for or solicit other viable solutions. I'm not saying that the cpu is faulty. All I can say is that you have a temp problem that's causing the shutdown.

i know that The main problem is that processor cores are overheating.....

i am trying to understand why are the cores overheating..

i have installed liquid cooler and sufficient fans but they didnt prove to be helpful....

so i would like to know from the community what can be reasons behind the overheating of cores

the possibilty of cooler is removed as i have 3 fans and h80 corsair liquid cooling...

the next thing comes is that the processor may be faulty but i am not sure yet so would lyk to know what can be the exact reason

for overheating...

having a very bad experience with intel...the i7-2600k is just eating my mind really fed up and no support from anywhere....

intel have the pressure to release a processor series every year but they are compromising this with the quality of their processors

i am lamenting why i didnt buy amd....

and more over this community is worthless no sensible replies...

these sandy bridge are useless processors as they have so many issues and intel went on releasing these processors only to trouble the consumers...

i m going to buy amd bulldozer now when it gets released

as i have thrown my i7-2600k in dustbin

Processors are very solid units and is very difficult to have a faulty one, but if you already did the previews recommendation like contact the board manufacturer, get latest BIOS/drivers, check for the best cooling practice and BIOS configuration on this matter, and the problem continues you can contact Intel for a replacement at 916 377 7000 or you can send an email at mailto:rpd@mailbox.intel.com rpd@mailbox.intel.com to set up a replacement order. I hope that fix you overheating issues.

Your problem is likely due to the use of the H80 liquid CPU cooler. A drawback of all liquid CPU coolers is the lack of air circulation in the area around the CPU, since there is no longer a fan in that area. Add to that a GTX 580 video card that creates much more heat than the CPU does, right in the area close to the CPU, and you'll have problems like this. The voltage regulator heat sinks won't have as much air circulation around them with the liquid cooler, as well as the chipset. Notice this happens only when you are gaming for a long time, the heat in that area builds up over time mainly from the video card, and you get the system lock up.

Which way do you have the fan on the H80's radiator blowing air, into or out of the case? I've heard that Corsair recommends having the fan pull air over the radiator into the case, which IMO would just cause hot air from the CPU to be put back in the case. With your PC's configuration, you should get another 200mm fan for the top of the case, the two fans provided by CM are not enough in your situation. I'm curious what your case and radiator fan configuration is, that may be the problem.

I use the H50 & the H 70 , but when I installed them I set them up so the air goes out the back of the box. and they work great.

Just another idea , what voltage are you running on the CPU , that can cause heat also??

I don't have personal experience with the Corsair H-Series CPU coolers, but I've heard that Corsair recommends the air across the radiator and into the PC case configuration, is that true? IMO the way you have it set up makes much more sense. Do you know why Corsair suggest the other method? Is it due to a clearance or mounting issue with the radiator? Is it quieter that way? A greater volume of air movement with intake rather than exhaust?

I believe you've been using those Corsair coolers for a while now and I've never seen one in action. Are the pumps quiet? I'm not a quiet-freak but just curious about that.

I don't know why Cousair sugest having the fans blowing ( except ) for the fact you would be blowing cool outside air at the radiator , Not a Bad Idea but you would have to turn around all of the other fans , I just thought it would be easer to turn around the radiator fans , and that works great, the only problem is dust you have to open the case and Blow out the inside of the case and the radiator , you know spring cleaning ,Not a bad Idea anyway.

Ok, I see, actually because I just got a H60. I can see now how it does make sense having the radiator fan push air across the radiator into the case, as long as there are exhaust fans nearby to remove that warmer air. I just started using and testing it, but so far so good. I'll be trying multiple configurations of the fan and radiator. Time for some stress testing...
