Poor performance RST Raid 5 with 4x Samsung HD204UI

    Marc-H

      Hardware Specs:

      Asus P5Q Deluxe (P45, ICH10R)

      C2Quad 6600

      4GB RAM

      ATI HD2600 Display adapter

      2x HPT RocketRaid 2300 Controllers

      4x Samsung HD204UI (RST raid 5)

      1x Samsung HD501LJ (boot)

      4x Samsung HD103UJ (RR 2300, Raid 5)

      4x Samsung HD154UI (RR 2300, Raid 5)

Intel PRO 1000 GT Desktop Adapter PCI

      Corsair 540 Watt powersupply

      Windows 7, 64 bit Ultimate SP1

Thes are the specs of mij fileserver. Not quite average, i know. I'm having problems with the onboard raid controller.  The problems started after Installing the four 2 TB drives, and configuring them for raid 5 (Stripe size 64KB, Write Back cache enabled, Physical and logical sector size: 512 Bytes)

Before the installation, i did not have any of these problems.

      The problems are:

      1. Windows boots very slow.

Boot time: 4 minutes for Windows only. I know that a single 500 GB drive isn't that fast, but five minutes?

      2. Music plays not smooth.

Every +/-10 seconds the music (MP3/Flac) stalls for a fraction of a second. (aimp3)

      3. HD Video stutters every few seconds om my HTPC.

(HTPC: Intel I3-4GB ram, ATI HD5450, Gbit LAN). When playing from a share of my fileserver, the 1080P video doesnt play smooth, but stops ever for a fraction of a second.(XBMC, Media player Classic Home Cinema, 64bit)

These are the only errors in the windows Logs.

      What i have tried:

      - Updated drivers

      - Flashed Mainboard

      - Disabled Onboard Network cards, and installed an Intel Gbit NIC.

      - moved both HPT raid controllers to other PCI-E slots

      - Removed both HPT controllers.

      - Reinstalled Windows

      - Played With PNP OS settings in bios.

Somebody any idea how to solve this one?
