Hello,
I compared E7-8870 with X5690 in Intel site. But I failed to understand which one is suitable regarding performance for SQL server application. Our SQL server is on a server with 2 X5690 CPUs . The server is low on CPU, this means that some cores are in 100% usage and some cores are in 5% USAGE. This means that I need a higher performance CPU rather than a CPU with more cores.
Would any one help me in this issue?
Regards,
Parissa Bakhshi

Hi!
Because performance depends on multiple variables, it's difficult to determine a specific processor that would best meet your needs. You can refer to the following website, however, to further-help compare processors in therms of their features, and thus, help you decide which you want to go for:
http://compare.intel.com/pcc/default.aspx?familyid=12&culture=en-US http://compare.intel.com/pcc/default.aspx?familyid=12&culture=en-US
I did notice, though, the Intel(R) Xeon(TM) Processor E7-8870 is support on the LGA1567 CPU socket type while the Intel(R) Xeon(TM) Processor X5690 on the FCLGA1366 so they would require different server boards.
