I remember seeing this, sometime last year. I can't recall what the workaround was, though. What version are you on now, and what are you updating to?

Unfortunately I'm unable to retrieve the BMC Firmware revision. The System information page is not showing any data. Attempts to obtain the BMC version using the utilities returned the error: "BMC in FW transfer mode".
When the problem occurred the motherboard was updating with the Intel Assistant to the latest version of BMC: 56.
I finally had some success using the BIOS recovery packagefor EFI.
The startup.nsh did the full update and the error message dissapeared.
Now: I still have the problem that the fans are spinning at max speed.
The noisy fans problem was actually a wrongly mapped connection (fans 1 & 3 switched over) Once I replaced the connectors in the correct sockets the noise dissapear.
