I have a "WiFi Link 5100 802.11AGN minicard" in my laptop. In the Device Manager, there is an entry for "802.11n channel width for band 2.4." It can either be set to "20 MHz only" (what it came with) or "Auto." I would normally choose "Auto" just for making more sense. What is the difference between them, and which is better?
Hi Ernest, based on my understanding, "Auto" will try to negotiate @ 40MHz which will have better signal quality for N since it's using 5GHz frequency, while 20MHz is using 2.4GHz, lower frequency is susceptible to common device interference.
