    Core i5 2500 73°C!

    Douglasmarks

      Hello! A week ago I bought an Intel Core i5 2500. Today I got scared when installing Core Temp and noted that during the time I was playing "Mafia II ", the CPU temperature peaked at 73°C!

      This temperature is normal? low? High? Should I worry?

          Hi,

          I confirm anything above 72.6°C is considered overheating; hence, to begin troubleshooting, I'd recommend the following:

          1. Make sure the processor's running with its bundled heatsink/fan.

          2. If your board's an Intel(R):

          2.1. Restart the system into BIOS by pressing <F2> during the boot process.  Once in the BIOS setup utility, press <F9> to restore BIOS default settings.  Reset any customized BIOS settings. Clear all DMI event logs by setting the option to "Enable", which is located in the Advanced/Event Log Configuration section of the BIOS Setup utility.  Finally, press <F10> to save the new settings and reboot the system.

          2.2. Make sure the BIOS is latest version.

          3. If your board's not an Intel(R), at least, make sure the BIOS is latest version.
