I've been working on this but still can't get the 6300 to work in two-channel mode. Does anyone know about this?

Please check the advanced settings of your adapter this can be seen in the properties of the Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 from the device manager.

Look for the first setting that is “802.11n Channel Width for band 2.4GHz” change the setting to Auto instead of 20MHz only, restart the computer and verify the connection again.

I did have that Auto setting right from the start. But I just came back here to report that I fixed it by using the driver from the Intel site instead of the one that came with the laptop. It now connects at 300Mb/s, so I am happy.
