My Windows 7 updates appear to be "stuck"

For a couple of weeks now, when I switch on I get the following

      Configuring Windows updates

                        0% complete

Do not turn off your computer

This message stays on the screen for about 10 minutes and then switched to the login prompt.

When I switch off the system appears to apply 4 updates.

So every switch on takes over 10 minutes and the updates are NOT done!!??

Is there anyway to delete these updates and redownload them?

Is there some other action I can take?

As you can imagine - it is very annoying!  One of the advantages of Win 7 was it's faster "switch on" but not any more on my system.

      Help, please....
