I also have a D865GBF in my museum of motherboards, and I checked (for you) if the retention mechanism has also the liitle movement capability that you told, and it has.
Looking how the mechanism is built, this movement is normal if it remains small, depending just of the thickness of the PCB.

I chated to Intel but they suggested to me that I posted it here.I don't remember this little movement when the mother was new.But now, after you tell me I think it is normal.I'll check the temperature of the processor and the mother.It will help me to determine if the fan heatsink isaffirmed good to the processor.Thanks a lot, Batbicho.
