    jabz

I have a new SR1530SH server which has the S3200SHL server board.

Is it possible to install 1 harddrive and install and setup Windows 2008 Server,  then after its been setup install a 2nd Harddrive and enable software RAID 1 without loss of the Windows 2008 install?

Also is software RAID available on this server without any additional purchase? I have purchased SR1530SH server which has the S3200SHL.

      tha package includes the following:

      Server System SR1530SH Barebone

      Intel Server Board S3000SHL

      Intel Server Chassis SR1530

1 x PCI Express riser slot support

      Standard control panel

      1 x 350-watt fi xed power supply

      Pre-routed cables

      System blowers and PCI fan

      Air duct and baffle

I believe it's possible if you enable Matrix RAID in BIOS. See http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imsm/sb/CS-022830.htm

Btw, you may want to installed the Matrix Storage driver and utility version that's tested for S3200SH.

Thanks I have done the 1st step and enabled RAID in BIOS.  I have installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit

I only have 1 SATA drive installed at the moment, will install 2nd drive for RAID1 soon.

It installed the following storage controller during setup automatically.

              Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller - Driver version 8.6.2.1012 - 4/8/2009

I installed the correct Intel Chipset drivers.

I then downloaded the Intel Matrix Storage Manager utility  version 7.8.0.1012  from here

              http://downloadcenter.intel.com/SearchResult.aspx?lang=eng&keyword=%22s3200sh+imsm%22

But when I attempt to install it I get an error during setup.  "This operating system is not supported. Setup will now exit".

So I downloaded and installed the latest RAID driver from:

Intel® Matrix RAID and AHCI Driver for Windows*    2/22/2010 7.8.0.1012

After it installed it changed the Storage controller driver to:

Intel Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller - Driver version 10.1.0.1008 - 11/6/2010

I then tried to install the Intel Matrix Storage Manager utility again, but I get same error "This operating system is not supported. Setup will now exit".

              I have some screenshot below.

What RAID utility can I install to setup Intel Matrix RAID on Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise 64bit?

Windows Server 2008 R2 has not been validated and supported on S3200SH, so the validated driver/utility won't support Windows Server 2008 R2. You can try to install the general RST utility. Most likely it will work, but please take note that it's not validated and supported by Intel on S3200SH board.

OK I will try that utility.  DO I need to load the RST driver as well?

WHich RAID driver should I retain, they both seem to work.

                  Intel ICH8R/ICH9R/ICH10R/DO SATA RAID Controller - Driver version 8.6.2.1012 - 4/8/2009

                  or

Intel Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller - Driver version 10.1.0.1008 - 11/6/2010

I dont see the Press CTL+I for RAID setup during boot either, is that because I only have 1 drive installed?  I will setup RAID with that if I cant get the windows util going.

When you install the utility, the driver will also be updated, so you dont' need to load the driver seperately.

If you already select "Matrix Storage" in BIOS and don't have the Ctrl-I prompt, yet it's because you have only one drive.
