Intel desktop board and processor with UBUNTU

I am thinking to move away from Windows OS [read Windows 7] to Ubuntu for the obvious reasons; namely, Cost, stability and security. Before I finally switch to Linux based OS I would like to ascertain whether my present Hardware will support Linux in general and Ubuntu in particular.

My PC Hardware Composition is as follows:

      • Desktop Board:      INTEL DG45ID
      • Processor:          INTEL CORE 2 DUO - E8400
      • Memory:             4GB-DDR2-800MHZ
      • Hard Disk Drive:    3.5" - 7200rpm - SATA
      • Optical Disk Drive: DVD RW 22X (Combo)

I would like to request the INTEL COMMUNITY (those who are using Linux/Ubuntu in particular)to help me with the necessary awareness regarding any known issues with the above mentioned Desktop Board and Processor with respect to using Linux/Ubuntu.

I would also like the community to inform me of the ideal hardware from Intel to use with Linux/Ubuntu, as I would be assembling a new computer soon.

Looking forward to the valuable replies.
