In comparing Xeon's to I-7 , it's becomes a $$$ Issue , of course the Xeons are always and you can find a Xeon that matches the I-7, Buy Specs , but they are more $$$ . It just depends what board are you going to use ,and what are your requirements are. There are Boards out there where you can use dual Xeon's , Like the X-7560 , But they are about $3800 each.
I run a Xeon in my desktop and I much pefer it to the QX90000 that it replaced but that's my choice , I'm using a Xeon X3380 on a DX48BT2 ( which Intel said could not be done ) But I know better . and it out performs the QX9650 that I had before.
