Intel i7-2600k with stock cooler - idle and load temps?

I just got an i7-2600k (AWESOME by the way), but what should be the stock temperatures with the stock cooler at idle?

It's the stock Intel cooler with no overclocking and was seeing 65 degrees C at idle - is that ok? I see the Tcase on the spec sheet says 72.5C - is that max temp - or idle - or under load?

So, anyone else want to post their idle/load temps so I know if I'm cooking my CPU...

You should be seeing 40c ildle and 60c full load . How is your case cooling ??

Turns out I didn't have the heat-sink all the way seated. One of the 4 corner pins had worked loose.

When i re-seated them, I'm getting 30c at idle, and 50-60c at full gaming load. The temperatures are much more rock solid reliable now.

I can confirm that at 100c the CPU WILL thermal shutdown to save itself. I didn't realize that the heatsink had come loose until it hit a thermal shutdown. And that only took it about 60 seconds with the heatsink still on top the processor and touching, but with only two of the 4 corner heat-sink pins still fully engaged. Let that be a lesson - never, never try your cpu without a heatsink seated fully with thermal paste - even for a few seconds.

Scary moment, but I reseated everything, let it cool off and it rebooted fine. Temps stayed at 50c at the bios screen (Asus reported that's because none of the power-saving features have been turned on in the bios screen), and dropped to 30c when idling in windows 7. Machine survived it's thermal danger limit and been absolutely rock-solid the last few weeks.

Hi guys

I have the same cpu and cooler.

When BF3 came out i played it nonestop a hole weekend NP, drove home and now i can play about 15 min and i get the therminal shoutdown.

I think i have the same problem, with the cooler being loose. could have gotten loose on the ride home!

All temps are idle about 40-50 but burns up to about 100 when i play BF3 and then turns off about 10 to 15 min play time

Im unsure how the stupid locking pins work.

when i gently push the cooler, how much should it move, and what can you guys tell about the pins, it is that stupid press and turn system.

Can i safly use small bolts instead ?

Any sugestions i am abit at a lose as wtf to do!!

Side question how hot should the GPU get ? it is a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

Here is a guide:

Coretemp reads 27-32 on idle, 35-45 on practical load, and around 60-67 on sustained 100%, Using a thermometer placed beside cooler reads 25. Bios indicate cpu idle @40-43 c.

Hello; In regards your question 72.5°C is normal operational temperature of the processor on Idle, now if you current temperature is 65 °C this means that you processor is running at normal specifications. In the case that you processor starts to overheat, it will shut down your system in order to avoid damage .

Hi...In answer to your question about what the temperature should be for that thermal case specification use...When they say 72.5 degrees,that is the hottest that it should be in any situation and depending on your third party cpu cooler will vary on what the idle temperature should be...

Since someone asked, the only cooling solution I was using was the stock cooler with the provided pre-applied thermal paste.

I will be applying a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus cooling block (which has gotten very good recommendations by many forums) after I get my P67 motherboard replaced in late Feb...

Current temps with STOCK cooler:

Idle temp in Win7 Ultimate x64 = 30-32C

Game/load temp = 45-60C

Hi...I have read your last post and you say that you are going to get what I presume is a water cooler and not a air cooler,am I right or wrong...Most coolers that I read about I have noticed that the manufacturers provide new socket bracket for air coolers and water blocks for of course for water coolers instead of buying a whole new cpu cooler...One thing you should remember is that to get those brand name coolers whether air or water that really do cater for longegivity by supplying future cpu air brackets and water blocks to suit the old cpu cooler...Not much help,but may become handy to remember...

My Intel i7-2600K with stock cooler runs at 35 Deg. C at idle. Just was watching movie and max temp on all cores was 57 Deg. C.

I Just assembled my unit in Antec 300 case with 120MM top and rear exhaust fans. Fans don't seem to be critical .I've tried medium and low speeds on the fans with no observable temperature differences. How do you determine fan temp? I use a free program called Core Temp.

I've just put together my 2600K system and although idle temperatures appear normal, 38 C, that temperature rises very quickly upon doing the slightest bit of work.

Even running Adobe Dreamweaver (5-15% CPU activity) puts my core temperature at 60 C, and if I try to run Bionic the temperatures sore beyond 85 C within 5 minutes (I stopped he application at this point).

After seeing such high temperatures, I decided to reseat the cooler and when I took the it off I could see a half circular impression in the thermal paste of the copper plate on the heatsink. Only seeing a half circular impression seems to indicate that the heat sink was not installed properly the first time around. Anyway I've cleaned off the old thermal paste and reapplied Arctic Silver 5 and then reseated the cooler, but despite doing this, I'm seeing exactly the same temperature profile.

Could I have an uneven cooler?

Un even cooler or uneven cpu ??? Get a factory Cert. Stright edge , and a feeler gage and check it . it should be with in ( 0.002 ) Flat. I have seen people Lap CPUs I don't recomend it because you are going to wipe off all the info on the CPU , But lapping the cooler can be done . Mysely if I pruchased a Big $$$ Cpu and it wasn't flat I would RMA it.

I had the same problem of temps shooting up. Almost certainly you're heatsink isn't fully seated. You best attend to this, because it will work itself even more loose later. That's what it did to me and I even got a thermal shutdown - which is a very bad thing.

Open your case and really make sure all 4 tabs on your heat-sink are really seated and locked. Worst case senario you'll need to buy some artic silver or the like, clean the old thermal paste off, and re-do the paste.

Also, make sure the fan on your heatsink is plugged in and working.

I reseated mine, and saw temps almost never went about 55C. I put a aftermarket cooler (CoolerMaster 212 hyper or something like that), and even undere the worst loads it never gets above 45C

I've removed and reseated the cooler twice and checked numerous times to ensure all pins are firmly locked and for some reason I cannot get the cooler to sit flat on the processor. At 30% CPU load the CPU temperature is about 70 C and the CPU fan is spinning at somewhere between 2400 and 2700 RPM and with such a high RPM, the fan noise is considerable! The fan speeds where measured by the ASUS sensor monitoring toolkit that came with my motherboard.

Anyway, I am giving up on the stock cooler and have now ordered a Hyper 212 plus, hopefully this will put an end to the high temps under minimal load.

Update since upgrading to the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus cooling block. It's a simple large aluminum block cooler with a fan on it. It's not water-cooled (per someone's question). I installed it when I got my free replacement/repaired Cougar Point board.

In short - GREAT cooler and a big improvement over the stock cooler. I only spent like $25 for it on Newegg and about $5 for some Artic Silver 5. I took the old cpu cooler off and the chip out. I carefully wiped off all the old thermal paste. I believe i used a microfiber cloth with a tiny drop of isoprophonol alcohol to do the cleaning. I finished up with a drop of water on a clean microfiber cloth to get it super clean and dirt-free.

I installed the cooler with a TINY bit of Artic Silver. Be sure to look around on the net to see the right way to put the paste on so it coveres the cores. Now I see the following:

OLD temps with STOCK cooler:

Idle temp in Win7 Ultimate x64 = 30-32C

Game/load temp = 45-60C

NEW temps with CoolerMaster Hyper 212 Plus cooler:

Idle temp in Win7 Ultimate x64 = 25-30C

Game/load temp = 30-40C

So, best $30 I think I've ever spent. I don't overclock, but I'll bet I can really crank my i7-2600k way up, but I'm running stock settings until I'm sure it's solid. I've been running almost 6 months now without issue - but really don't need to overclock since I've never been able to peg it at 100%! It's been the best upgrade I've made in years; and the Asus P67 board I got is flawless on drivers/sleeping/waking/etc. Best machine I've evered owned - hands down.

with default cpu heatsink i put my macine in A/c at 17 degree/c

plz guide me what to do? i m afraid my cpu will not be blast by heat plz help me

Alot of people have gone with the coolmaster 212 , BLAA , I use coursair , H-70 , and my next build will get a H-100 , these are great sys totaly trust worthy, I you want to keep your $$$ CPU cool , at Least look at the Coursair solutions.
