Claims that there is no Virtualization support. This seems to be related to Errata AV69, and the solution is to contact the board manufacturer for a BIOS update.
This is an Intel board and I've flashed the latest (as of a week or two ago) BIOS - it reads:
I'm reluctant to pull the heat sink to check the stepping level of the CPU, but here's the stuff on the label on the box:
PROD CODE: BX80580Q8400
FPO/BATCH # L006C128
EAN 5 032037 009492
UPC 7 35858 20888 8
Pack date 11/03/10 Ver # E66999-003 Malaysia
What now? Thanks - jt
I decided to go to Intel for help on this one, and after an unproductive chat session, I escalated, was assigned a case number, and eventually had a callback from Michael who told me that the board had just gone into unsupported status, but that I should try to flash the bios again, using the refresh technique rather than the update that runs under windows or dos.
I did this and it resolved the problem. My guess is that the code fix referred to in AV69 is in a part of the bios core that is not updated unless you do the full refresh procedure.
