Hi, I am new to these forums...not even sure if I am posting in the right place.
I have a box with a W3540 processor and I looked it up here http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=594 http://ark.intel.com/ProductCollection.aspx?familyID=594 and it said it has a socket "FCLGA1366" and a CPU ID "106A5". Can I replace it with a X5680 processor with a socket ""FCLGA1366" and a CPU ID "06C2" ? If yes, is there anything else I will need to be aware of when upgrading? If no, what are my options for upgrading? Thanks,TomLink Copied

Hi,
What moptherboard/server board do you have? You need to check the compatibility list for that board.

Dare I mention, it's a Dell precison workstation.
The only information they could give me was "The part number is T312P and it is a basic TPM Motherbaord kit" and "The board holds a Intel Nehalem processor."
So I entered my service tag and they gave a list of processors I could upgrade too.
Xeon X5680
Xeon X5660
Xeon X5650
...to name a few. So I guess I answered my own question.
Is there anything I should be aware of when upgrading?

As long as the processor is listed as supported by your motherboard, there will be no problem at all.
