CPU Thermal Grease D54816-001 - Expiry date

I have just received an D54816-001 Intel thermal grease with expiry date saying 04-SEP-2011. Does it mean that it can not be used after that date, for example, because of loosing its abilities?

And what if I apply it few days before expiry date? Will it perform worse after that date?

This stuff is designed to last for years , I don't think just because it's alittle beyond the experation date that it would be no good . But again I don't use intel CPU paste anyway , I use Antec 5 silver. It's cheap $10.00 and does a better job , I have tried serval brands on some high watt CPUs and the Antec seems to work best .
