Intel i7 - 950 Processor Temperature Check !

I have just build up my new rig from Core2Duo with i7-950. The Idle temperature of 950 for is around 43 - 44 c and on priming it at full load using Prime 5 it crosses 81 C in 2 minutes. Is it normal for the processor. What is the Maximum temperature this processor can handle. Meanwhile I am using the Stock Cooler only. Core2Duo with Stock cooling was better even at full load for so many hours it never crossed 60 C.

Regards

Francis

I also got the Tcase from the Processor Specification and has already crossed it several times ;-). What is the acceptable maximum limit which the processor has attained in praticality.

Got this from another source but I have not verified it.

All Core i7 9xx variants:

Vcore Max 1.375v

Tcase Max (CPU temperature) 68c

Tjunction (Core temperature) 73c

Your temps seem high. Check your heatsink. Most likely it is not snapped down all the way on one corner.

I have changed my heatsink to Venomous X and now the temperatures are really under control. ;-)

I have the same problem, idle temp is about 56C, at full use it goes up to 90C.

This computer was working fine for a year, then suddenly this. I did check the heatsink I think it was loose, removed, reinstalled didnt work.

Removed, cleaned, reinstalled with new white therm grease, same.

Installed a new fan to push air to the memory, great job cooling memory bank nothing on CPU.

Swap an extractor fan to another place in the case didnt work. I just removed the case cover little bit better.

Am stuck, Just cant figure out how to fix it. I tried turning of the turbo with the desktop control center, little bit better.

Descktop control center report 43C ambient, real ambient temp may be around 30C.

CPU VR 47C IOH 57C.

Am thinking on buying a new fan cooler, may be something wrong with the seating on this one. Any advice before I spend more money?

Hi,

I confirm all Intel(R) processors have their specifically designed cooling systems, which should keep the temperature within range. If this is going above http://ark.intel.com/products/37150/Intel-Core-i7-950-Processor-%288M-Cache-3_06-GHz-4_80-GTs-Intel-QPI%29# infosectionpackagespecifications 67.9°C, then, I'd additionally recommend, then, the following:

1. If the heatsink/fan is seated properly, then, apply new thermal paste:

http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-030329.htm http://www.intel.com/support/processors/sb/CS-030329.htm

Note: The surface of the processor can be wiped clean with a soft lint-free cloth and isopropyl alcohol.

2. Otherwise, make sure the BIOS on your board is updated to the latest version. For this, please, check with your board manfuacturer. If that's an Intel(R) desktop board, please, refer to our Download Center:
