    I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

      Hello all

I'm a french boy and i'am happy to join for the fist time the communitie :-)

Sorry if i d'ont speak very well...

Here is my question and i hope you will be able to help me ^^

      I don't understand something. If u look here :

You can find this about the processor :

    • Intel® Core™ i7-870
    • 8 Mo L3 cache
    • 2.93 GHz avec Turbo Boost jusqu'à 3.60 GHz
    • DDR3 1066 MHz, 95 W

how is it possible ? Because i7-870 is only DDR3 1333 Mhz (dual channel) no ?

Just I9 can use DDR3 1066 Mhz in triple channel no ?

Do u think it's a mistake of the website ? Maybe it's a I7-870 lower than the real ?  Such a thing is realy possible ? I have never heard about that since now.

Thank y very mutch for helping me, and hope to read u soon

You're all welcome in Paris when u want :-)

        • 1. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

          DDR3 PC3-12800 • 8-8-8-24 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.8V • 128Meg x 64

          tell me what about this

          • 2. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

            I don't understand your answer

            Look at this :

            The i7-870 is 2 X DDR3 1333 Mhz

            Why the website say 1066 Mhz ? It's a mistake no ?

            Thank U

            • 3. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

well on some motherboards you can have 3 dual channel lanes in other ward 3 x 2 = 6 so yes you can have 6 gb memory if you put 6-2 pairs of 1gb memory moduels. plus the ddr3 1333mhz memory you are talking about is the max speed of ddr3 that is allowed on the current clock of the core i7 870 if you overclock you can get anywhere from ddr3 1600mhz to 2300mhz. so yes they have 6gb memory but only in dual channel! 6 LANES.

for example i have ddr3 1600mhz memory from adata and it was running at 1333mhz so i overclocked it ant it ran at 1600mhz then i wanted to push it even more so i overclocked it to 1800mhz and i am running the core i7 870 so it went to 3.00ghz. and now running 1800hmz ddr3 memory so there you have it! runs like a charm!

              • 4. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

Thanc U very mutch Billy for the informations.

I agree with all U said, thats's why i feel very strange when I see on the website (link on my first post):

              • Intel® Core™ i7-870
              • 8 Mo L3 cache
              • 2.93 GHz avec Turbo Boost jusqu'à 3.60 GHz
              • DDR3 1066 MHz, 95 W

Because as U said : the max speed for the I7-870 is 1333Mhz and not 1066 Mhz !

And everywhere, on other website, on other shops, and on the "intell" website, we can read :

              • Intel® Core™ i7-870
              • 8 Mo L3 cache
              • 2.93 GHz avec Turbo Boost jusqu'à 3.60 GHz
              • DDR3 1333 MHz, 95 W

Do u think it can be a modify I7-870 ? Or it's just a mistake of the website and i can buy the PC without stress...

                Thank u very mutch

                • 5. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

i think it is just lower end memory to save money because like i said the i7 870 can take up to ddr3 1333mhz. so it can take anywhere from ddr3 800mhz memory to 1333mhz memory on stock clock so the ddr3 1066mhz memory is not a mistake. and as for the 6gb they probly have 2x 2gb sticks and 2x 1gb sticks!

                  • 6. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

Thank u so mutch one again my friend Billy for your answer :-)

                    Once upon a time : i agree with U !

And if u look good, the DDR3 with this computer on the website, is like U said : 6Go DDR3 1333 Mhz

                    That's why it's strange to see "1066 Mhz" next I7-870 no ?

                    Whatch this :

At the end of the page, U can read :

                    Mémoire :  6Go DDR3 1333MHz (like u said)

                    but next U can read

                    Processeur :

                  • Intel® Core™ i7-870
                  • 8 Mo L3 cache
                  • 2.93 GHz avec Turbo Boost jusqu'à 3.60 GHz
                  • DDR3 1066 MHz, 95 W

                    Not logic ?

If it was the opposite : process 1333 and RAM on the PC 1066. OK, no problem, but here is process 1066 and RAM 1333 ...

                    Mistake ?

                    • 7. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

on this im gonna have to say that the memory is probly at 1333mhz and the 1066 is a mistake but if the memory is at 1066mhz its not much diff between the 1333mhz. they both get about 7.3 to 7.5 performance score in windows. so dont worry about it and if you have a problem with it it looks as iff you can overclock this computer. so i am always willing to help with any issue!

                      Thank you

                      your friend

                      • 8. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

                        Thank U Billy :-)

                        Nice talking with U :-)

                        I think like U : it's a mistake of the website.

Because why put DDR3 1333 for a process that can only accept 1066... ?

I have a very last question (if you want and if u can help me one more/last time) :

On the official "intell" website (so here... !), they say that the DDR3 for the I7-870 is 1333.

Do you think ACER (or any other brand like Dell, HP, Medion, etc.), when they choose to put an intell process on a PC, can change/modify the process ?

Or must they use the process like it is, without any modifications...

Because maybe, when the I7-870 came out of the factory, it's built for use DDR3 1333, but when ACER buy it, ACER choose after to put it on a chipset that restrict, limit the DDR3 at 1066...

Is such a thing possible ?

                        • 9. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

JMB the problem with Acer and Dell and HP is they use their own BIOS and alot of times the BIOS they use do not allow you to change much as far as RAM timings or RAM volts, Nor do they allow any Overclocking.

                          • 10. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

they cant modify the processor but the chipset probly limits the speed of the memory witch makes it only able to use ddr3 1066mhz. but like i said you might be able to overclock the cpu and memory to get 1333mhz. the motherboard can have a limit aswell.

                            • 11. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

as for the cpu well the cpu can use ddr3 1333,1066, and 800. on stock!

                              • 12. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

Hello Rob, thank U and happy new year :-)

I don't want to overclok the CPU, I just want to know (or to understand)$ if the CPO of this PC is yes or no modify (with he bios, with the chipset or with other thing) to limite the RAM at only 1O66.

Because first we can read "I7-870 DDR3 1O66mhz" and only a few line later we can read "6 Go of DDR3 1333"

Why put 1333 if the CPU only can use 1066, or why whrite 1066 if the CPU can use 1333 ? ^^

                                I can't understand that...

                                Any help ?

                                • 13. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

Hello my friend Billy and once again TY :-)

I'm afraid when i read "the chipset probly limits the speed of the memory". Do you realy think it is like that for this PC

If yes, i don't want to buy it.

But isn't it strange for ACER to put/sell/build 6 GO of DDR3 1333 on this PC (look specifications) with a CPU limited at 1066... ??

                                  I can't understand....

                                  • 14. Re: I7-870 - DDR3 1066 Mhz ???

Billy I'd Bet you build your own computers Like me , this young man is talking about a store bought unit which can't be overclocked. Right ??
