Which is a better CPU a Core 2 Duo or or Quad Core?

I have a managed server and my current CPU is a Quadcore 2.5 and the new one they want to offer is a Core 2 Duo 2.13 or 2.83. I need to know if am downgrading to any of these choices. Thanks.

Actually the one I have now is called a Core 2 Quad

It is hard to say without knowing which Quad and which Duo.

In general Quad beats duo, however if the Quad (4 internal CPU's) is last generation with a front side bus architecture and the Duo (2 internal CPU's) is the current generation QPI bus architecture, the performances could be very nearly the same or possiably beter.
