RAID 5 problems with ICH8R

Hi,

I'm having lots of problems with my RAID 5 array on my motherboard's ICH8R chipset. I keep on getting errors on disks and having to go through a rebuild.

I have kept track and at first I thought it was one of the SATA channels on the board was bad, so I moved that drive to another port, but with no luck. I have noted errors on drives connected to every port that has a drive attached.

I'm curious about what I can do next to determine if it is the motherboard going bad or if there is some other cause.

Any and all suggestions are welcomed!

I am not overclocking at present. Here is what happened:

  1. I had a RAID 0 array on this system and a drive failed (RAID BIOS showed "errorr occurred" for one drive) so the PC was not bootable.

  2. I purchased 4 new drives and built the RAID 5 array.

  3. It started having a problem every once in a while, but I thought was the one SATA port, so I moved that drive and thnigs looked OK

  4. I then overclocked and had lots of problems

  5. I went back to stock clocking and I'm still having problems

I am not using RST, I am using Matrix Storage, should I be using RST instead of Matrix RAID?
