Intel D975XBX2 and RAID driver upgrade

    gregb-975

I have an Intel D975XBX2 motherboard running Windows XP Pro with two SATA drives in RAID 1 configuration (stock BOIS).
The system is running Intel Matrix Storage Console version 8.6.0.1007 (iaStor.sys is version 8.6.0.1007).
The system has been stable for more than a year (built in 2007).

The system "stopped" last week and Intel Matrix Storage Console indicated one of the RAID drives dropped out after rebooting.
The RAID array was restored after a second reboot (verify & repair), and no signs of pending failure.

"STOR_allOS_9.6.0.1014_PV.exe" has been available since March 2010.

Will upgrading to Matrix Storage Console version 9.6.0.1014 provide better diagnostics?

Does upgrading require a rebuild or simple driver installation?

      Thanks, Greg
