    Blinking Amber Light s5000psl sc5400lx critical low voltage BB +1.2V Vtt

      I have a new build SC5400LX, S5000PSL MB, X5355 Processor (1) SL9YM, 8GB Memory Kingston, Intel Raid Card RS2BL080. The server is up and running with Windows loaded. I have the blinking amber light issue and can not resolve. I have updated the BIOS BIOS99.BAT, Both Banks loaded optimized settings loaded,  then BMC66.BAT and then FSL48.Bat and chose the sc5400lx chassis. I have applied the above multiple times with no resoltion.

       

      System summary is showing BIOS: S5000.86B.14.00.0099       BMC: 66           SDR Package 48

       

      Memory is 4 2GB SIMMS DRR2 FB-DIMM  667 MHZ

       

       

      I am assuming the blinking amber is from the crital low voltage for BB +1.2V Vtt (Crtical Low and going lower) Any ideas on wha I can do next?

          What value does the SEL log report for a BB_1.2v reading?  (attaching the SEL log would be helpful to the Expert moderators on the forum)

           

          This voltage is the processor core voltage which is automatically switched by hardware between 1.2v on Clovertown processors (like you are using) and 1.1v for Harpertown processors. When you load the SDR's software reads the processor type and sets the correct SDR flagging for the processor installed.

           

          If you installed a Clovertown and flashed the SDR, but then replaced the Clovertown with a Harpertown without reflashing the SDR values, you would get this error message and the value read should be very close to 1.10v. Reflashing the SDR with the new processor and the error should go away.

           

          If you have not switched to a Harpertown and the SDR was flashed with the current processor installed, the other possibilities are all hardware.

          If the value is 1.1v an stable, I would suspect a bent pin in the upper right portion of one the CPU sockets (used or not) causing CPU pin F27 to ground shifting the VTT to the Harpertown level rather than the Clovertown level.

            Thanks for your response I will post the sel log this evening. I am not near the server now. The value was fluctuating between .87 and .86 The processor has not been changed. This is a new build and only one processor has been installed and the bios, bmc and sdr were all flashed with the processor installed.

                Not good.

                 

                If the BB 1.2v VTT is really at .86v, I am supprized the board boots.

                 

                I would recommend a close inspection of the PINS in both CPU sockets to make sure nothing is ben. You could also check the components around the heatsink mounting holes since several of these connect to this rail. If the pins look OK, you could check the actuial BB + 1.2v with a voltmeter, but by now your getting in pretty deep!

                 

                Since it is new, I would be checking with were you got the board on a warranty replacement befire diving in much deeper

                  Thanks Doc. the board died, I agree with the not enough volatage to power it up. I will get a replacement from intel. I was not 100% sure it was the MB but I did try a new processor and PS. I did this after it died (so this was not the cause). No beeps with the memory out and no beeps with the processor out. Looks like the board is no longer waking up. I should be OK when I get th enew board. Thanks Again...
