DH57JG, no HDMI output support in HD Audio Console

    Duelund

Just installed my new DH57JG, installed all drivers and upgraded to latest drivers (OS: WIn7 x64). Everything is working, great board.

I have noticed that in the HD Audio Console, I can not select the HDMI as output channel, only "Digital" and "Analog" (actually 2 different digital).

I have the PC connected to my TV via HDMI, so it would be nice to occasionally have the sound directed to TV via HDMI.

I have to go to.Windows Control panel, Sound to select the HDMI output as sound soruce.

I think this is a bug in the Intel Audio application ?

I have not upgraded BIOS, will that help ?

          Hi,

To further-check on this inquiry of yours, please, provide the following information:

          1. What is the make and model of the TV you're connecting your system to via HDMI?

          2. What is the audio driver version you installed/tried with?

          3. What is the video driver version you installed/tried with?

          4. Is there any conflict (yellow exclamation mark) shown in Device Manager?  If so, please, provide details on it.

          5. What is the Altered Assembly Number (AA #) of your Intel(R) Desktop Board DH57JG?

            Hi Salem,

Thank you for taking care of this.

I will try to answer your questions as good as I can. I have taken some scrrendumps, and hope that is ok.

            1. What is the make and model of the TV you're connecting your system to via HDMI?

            - The TV is a SONY KDL-46NX700 (from 2010)

            2. What is the audio driver version you installed/tried with?

            - According to HD Audio Manager the driver is version: 6.0.1.6106

            Audio-Driver.jpg

            3. What is the video driver version you installed/tried with?

            - The Video driver is version: 8.15.10.2182

            4. Is there any conflict (yellow exclamation mark) shown in Device Manager?  If so, please, provide details on it.

No, Device Manager is all clean

            5. What is the Altered Assembly Number (AA #) of your Intel(R) Desktop Board DH57JG?

            AA E70930-303

            Additional information:

TV, as seen in Intel Graphic Panel:

            Intel-Graphic-02.jpg

In Windows Control Panel Sound, I can select the TV for Audio:

            ControlPanel-Sound.jpg

But in HD Audio Manager, I can not:

            Realtek-HD-Audio-Manager.jpg

Even in my favourite Music Player (AlbumPlayer), I can select the TV for sound output (it probably take the infoemation from Windows):

            AlbumPlayer.jpg

I hope all these information helps.

            Best regards,

I have now upgraded to latest BIOS and also found a newer graphic driver, but it is the same.

Not possible to select HDMI as sound output, in HD Audio Manager.

                Hi, again,

                I'd next recommend the following:

                1. You'd stated there are "actually 2 different digital" options in the HD Audio Console; have you tried on each of these?

                2. Make sure you have the latest monitor (TV) driver/firmware (if any).

                Thanks!

Does your TV have a optical input ( toslink ) You may try running a fiber optical cable for the sound , There are still lots of BUGS in HDMI .

One is Digital Optical and the other is Digital Coax. The Digital Optical works fine with sound to my Surroud receiver.

                    2. Make sure you have the latest monitor (TV) driver/firmware (if any).

                    It's the latest driver.

I think RealTek forgot to programme HDMI suppport into the HD Audio application.

I am using the TosLink signal to my Surround Receiver.

I can get the sound from PC to TV via HDMI, but I have to go to Windows to select it, I can not select it from the bundled software (RealTek HD Audio Manager).

See my screenshots at top of the thread.

                        Hi, again,

Our lab set-up was able to recognize the monitor as an HDMI device.

As for the latest monitor driver, I'd recommend trying with the most current one (4.081):

                          Hi Salem,

                          Thank you for your input.

Can you confirm that your testlab was able to recognize the monitor as HDMI device in RealTek HD Audio Manager - the software shipped with the motherboard, and not just by Windows ?

                          Best regards,

                            Hi,
I confirm the Realtek* driver has nothing to do with the HDMI.  It is a separate audio codec that actually runs through the graphics driver.   So, just to confirm, does Windows* Sound Properties show your Sony* as an HDMI device?

If you look at our example (see screenshot below), it identifies it as Intel(R) High Definition Audio HDMI device:

                            Pic1.JPG

Notice the jack information within the properties window for that device (see image below); it identifies it as an HDMI Digital Jack:

                            Pic2.JPG

We also get the same thing when we bypass our receiver and directly connect to the TV set.  The TV shows up as an HDMI device, which is why it works.

Make sure both, the receiver and TV, are HDMI compliant, and verify that you are using the specific driver for the monitor in question.

                              Hi again,

The link you mentioned for being a driver for SONY TV is actually a firmware for the TV.
Since I am living in Denmark and my TV is not for the US market, my TV is using another firmware.

In fact, my TV is conencted to Internet and update its firmware automatically and is now running firmware version 4.085 which is the latest for my TV.

The one you linked to is version 4.081 for US market.

This is my sound devices in Windows:

                              sony-tv-0.jpg

                              Properties for SONY TV:

                              sony-tv-1.jpg

as you can see, it states HDMI for connection.
Notice that this from a Danish Windows 7, since I am living in Denmark.

                              Supported Formats:
                              sony-tv-2.jpg

As you can see, my SONY TV is fully supported by Windows.

What I miss is the ability to select HDMI as sound output in the Realtek HD Audio Manager, like I try to show here:

                              Realtek.jpg

So in Windows I can selecty SONY TV (HDMI) as sound source, but in Realtek HD Audio Manager I can NOT.

I hope this cleares out what I am writing about and is missing, all form the start of this conversation.

                                Hi, again,

                                Sorry about the delay!

We checked and confirm the fact HDMI Output is not displayed/found among the options in the Realtek* HD Audio Manager is not a driver limitation as "in Windows, [you] can selecty SONY TV (HDMI) as [a] sound source", and "[your] SONY TV is fully supported by Windows" (qtd. on your previous post message).  Hence, although we thank you for the feedback, we would recommend contacting the vendor itself (Realtek), as Intel doesn't develop that controller.

As Salem stated above the Realtek audio does not manage the HDMI out, it actually runs through the graphics driver.  Am I correct to assume that you do not have any other audio issues on the board, i.e. you can play through the rear jacks?  Are you able to test the HDMI cable and TV with some other device?  For example, a Blu-Ray Player or some other HDMI device, just to rule out that the problem is not with the cable or the TV.

                                  Thanks

                                  Chris

Yes - I think I have tried explaining this several times. Please read above from the start.

I can easily select HDMI sound output in Windows Control Panel -> Sound. And it works (with my TV).

But I cannot select HDMI as sound output in RealTek HD Audio Manager which was delivered with the Intel Mother Board. The option is missing.

The only HDMI input device I have is my TV.
