FSB 1333 CPU in a 1066 q965 chipset mobo

Even if Intel compatibility tables do not show "mixed" FSB/CPU options ... !!!

What results can I have upgrading with a Core 2 or Quad 1333 FSB CPU ??? (Reason to ask: Old FSB 1066 CPU's out of sale or price).

Will the FSB 1333 CPU work at 1066 ok... just a litle bit slower in FSB transfer rate actions ? or a lot slower for everithing ?

For example with a "new" Intel® Procesador Core™ 2 Duo E8400 (Boxed, FC-LGA4, "Wolfdale").

Or a Intel® Procesador Core™ 2 Quad Q9400 (Boxed, FC-LGA4, "Yorkfield").

Will ir work for example with a Intel® procesador Pentium® E6500 (Boxed, FC-LGA4, "Wolfdale-3M") 1066 FSB low dual core technology ? (not vPro comliant)

I have a ACER Veriton 7900Pro PC with 965 express chipset (FQ965M Mobo), 1066 FSB and vPro compliant, BIOS R03-A4.

I found a E6750 CPU (FSB 1333) inserted ... not working now for overheat resons (fan stoped !).

There is a good chance they will work, the biggest issue is whether the specific motherboards BIOS has the CPUs microcode in it or not, and therefore recognise or not the CPU.

Thanks, the good chance could be or not ! and I have only 1xx Euros for one shot !

Do you think that the Intel Q965 chipset has the capacity to work with 1333 FSB, even if it started in design with 1066 ?. It's just a matter of BIOS microcode ?.

About the degradation in performance ... any idea ? (30% I have read in ... a Tom's HW Web ... and that's a lot less power).

Hi,

even if the q965 doesn't go up to 1333, the CPU will scale down, about degradation of performance i couldn't tell you with any certainty. so in does kinda come down to teh microcode..
