intel-realsense-dfu -p command causes sdk to not see camera until camera is unplugged/plugged

We have a python project that is using the realsense sdk 2.16. It detects the camera until we run "intel-realsense-dfu -p" to check the version of the firmware that is on the camera. After we do this, the python sdk no longer detects the camera until we unplug/plug the camera back in. Any ideas?

ubuntu 16.0.4

realsense firmware 5.9.2.0 and 5.10.6.0

realsense sdk version 2.16.3.328

An alternate way to check your firmware version is to open the RealSense Viewer program and left-click on the device information 'i' button at the top of the options side-panel to bring up your camera's details, including currently installed firmware.
