Problem: SATA2 drives using Intel ICH10R SATA Controller are not hot swappable

ASUS Rampage III Extreme motherboard

Windows 7 64-bit

The Motherboard BIOS for the Intel ICH10R is in AHCI mode – not raid mode.

Procedure

Intel ICH10R SATA Controller

Intel website - Intel® Rapid Storage Technology http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/highlights/chpsts/imsm (Intel® RST)

Driver: f6flpy96x64.zip <- Obtained from Intel's driver web site

I installed the driver.

Reboot

The Motherboard BIOS for the Intel ICH10R is in AHCI mode – not raid mode.

I inserted a Seagate SATA2 drive into Intel ICH10R port.

The drive appears in the File Manager, but does not appear in "Safely Remove Hardware and Eject Media". Therefore, it is not hot swappable. Why?

Thanks in advance.

I am having the same problem. Same OS, same chipset, same driver, different motherboard (Asus P6X58D-E)

When I turn on my external SATA I drive, it is not even recognized by Windows. If I go into the Intel Rapid Storage Technology program and click on the icon to run a hardware scan, the drive will appear. However, still no way to remove the drive when I am done. Perhaps a problem with the 64-bit driver?
