SATA problems with my D865PERL Mobo

I've been running a IDE hard drive and a IDE DVD re-writer drive successfully for years on this mobo. Recently I added a 500MB hard drive for storage, not for booting, on one of the SATA board connections. So far so good as the new SATA disk drive was recognised as the E:.

However yesterday I introduced a new SATA DVD re-writer drive to the remaining free SATA board connector and this made the existing SATA hard drive disappear. Tried all sorts of things in the BIOS but to no avail. Eventualy decided to set the BIOS back to default and get in touch with you guys. So the IDE side of my system is fine but in the BIOS the SATA options are greyed out.

      All help would be appreciated
