I just upgraded my intel board dp35dp from the Core 2 Duo E6550 2.33 GHz 2 Mb cache to the E8400 Core 2 Duo 3.00 GHz with 6 Mb cache. I don't expect it to fully function at 3 GHz at all times, but my Windows experience index dropped from 5.9 on the slower processor to 5.2 on the newer, faster processor. It appears to be performing less calculations per second than my old one and my old one was in the slow process of dying. Is there something wrong with the new processor? I fully expected a quicker startup time on my pc and it is disappointing me very much.
Any tips on how to find out why the index is lower now and if there is something wrong with my new chip? All my system tests say it is working properly. My motherboard accepted the new CPU and Win7 identified and installed the drivers immediately on the first startup. Should I be looking to flash my BIOS to get the full potential out of the chip? Any insight would be appreciated.
