We just took over managing an Intel S3200SH server running SBS 2003 premium (SP2).
The server runs slow all the time. No processes show up in Task Manager as taking over the CPU and Ram usage is very steady.
CPU usages is routinely under 20 %.
It becomes unresponsive about once a week (Black Screen, no BSOD). A power cycle brings it back and it takes 20 minutes to boot up.
We have alot of experience with SBS 2003 and we have 5 year old servers in production on P4 CPUs that can run circles around this one.
Another issue is that we are doing everything remotely. The server is 1000 miles away. So, we have very limited access to the hardware.
I can get someone onsite to go into the bios if necessary.
It is RAID 5 using the onboard ICH9R controller. (3 Sata RAID Disks) - WDC WD5001ABYS-01YNA0
BIOS info: BIOS Version/Date Intel Corporation S3200X38.86B.00.00.0039.030420081339, 3/4/2008
Ram is 4 GB and it looks like the CPU is quad core: Processor x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 7 GenuineIntel ~2493 Mhz
It only has two users on it.
Any ideas where to start other than updating all the drivers? We are starting that process shortly.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
