As mentioned in the topic I have an old D955XBK motherboard which currently has an older Pentium D 3.0Ghz Processor. I believe it's a 900 series with a FSB of 800Mhz. I know the motherboard supports a FSB of 800Mhz and 1066Mhz and has a LGA775 socket. What I want to know is does my motherboard support Core 2 Duo processors? To be more more specific would it support either the Core 2 Duo E7400 or E7500? They both have a FSB of 1066Mhz and have a LGA775 Socket. If not either one of those processors is there any Core 2 Duo that would work with my motherboard? If not could someone please explain to me exactly why they aren't compatible? I mean that would make no sense whatsoever it's a wtf scenario. As they both have the same socket type and they both have a FSB that supports each other.
Hi the CPU compatibility list for that motherboard: http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/d955xbk/sb/cs-026574.htm
The only reason why you can't and why it won't work is because the microcode of the CPU have not been inserted in the BIOS. myu guess it is simple marketing. SPecially with the likes of this board that are very very good. If tehy did update teh BIOS with all thge C2C and C2Q, you wouldn't have to buy another motherboard!
