    Intel DH55TC Automatic Restart Problem

    rajusaboo

I have the following system :

      Motherboard : DH55TC

RAM : Kingston 2 GB - Single Stick

      Processor - I3 530

Hardisk : 320 GB Sata Seagate

Operating System : Windows XP Prof with SP3

The problem is that, the system automatically powers itself on without even me pushing the power button on the Chasis. If we shut down, the system would power itself up after approx. 5 seconds. This happens if we forget to turn off the power plug from the mains. I initially thought that it was a SMPS problem and purchased a new one. However, this has not helped. The problem still persists. I have tried to disconnect all the components and re-assemble the them. Even that has not helped. Any Ideas anyone...?

          Hello:

          Try these troubleshooting steps:

          1. Update your system BIOS, you can download the latest version here:

          http://downloadcenter.intel.com/download.aspx?url=/18997/eng/TCIBX10H.86A.0035.EB.EXE&agr=N&ProductID=3143&DwnldId=18997&strOSs=All&OSFullName=All+Operating+Systems&lang=eng

          2. Please, take the board out of the chassis to avoid any kind of grounding issue, if there is some grounding with the computer case you can have this kind of problem. Please follow the guidelines in the following link:

          http://support.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/CS-020836.htm

          3. Test different memory, you can find the list of test memory for your desktop board here:

          http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/dh55tc/sb/CS-030954.htm#tested

          4. Also make sure that chassis power connectors are properly connected to the desktop board, for more information check the following URL:

          http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/sb/cs-009016.htm

            Dear Sergio,

            1. The BIOS update was successfully done. It has not helped.

            2. The Board was taken out of the chasis for the BIOS update. A Bios reset was also attempted but the process did not help.

            3. The question of Memory creating the problem does not arise. I also had this suspicion but the board restarts even if only the following components are connected. (i.e the board itself, the power supply and the processor only. No other components including the hardisk, or other drives etc including the USB headers are all disconnected with the connectors removed from the board. The board simply does not wait for me to put the power on. As soon as the power is switched on from the main power switch on by room electric board it starts automatically. Although if no RAM is inserted it does give a beeping sound. The processor fan works normally and the light on the board comes up.

            4. I have already replaced the power supply with a new one. The problem still persists. This surely means that it is not a supply problem. The connectors are very much in place.

Same problem. I am running Win XP SP3 with a couple of browsers IE and Firefox only. System can't be shut down using Windows Shutdown command or by poressing the power button. Either method only shuts the system off for a few seconds then it starts itself back up again. I've tried everything and the only way I can get these machines to stay off other than pulling the plug or switching the PS off is to remove the second NIC (which by the way works well in other non-Intel systems). Problem is the machine needs one fibre NIC and one copper (on board) in order to be usefull to us. The second NIC is an Allied Telesyn AT-2711FX/SC using one of the PCIE-1x slots. I bought 60 of these motherboards to build 60 systems and all except 4 or 5 of them have the same problem. I have flashed the BIOS with the latest version (5 times in as many months) starting with the originally supplied version 27. I am now at version 40. I've had nothing but trouble with these boards from difficulty matching memory to boards randomly dropping NIC settings after a re-boot to this power down problem. It would be nice if someone at Intel had a fix.
